You need M771s or M761s to be able to mod XT cranks to 83mm BB for it to be easy. Does Shimano make M971s or something with a longer spindle? No. Yeah, M970s to 83mm has been done before but you have not only mod the cranks, but the BB and the frame. Is the average joe going to be able to do it like they can do it to M771s? No, not at all. Not to mention the TERRIBLE chain line, etc etc. Facing your bottom bracket shell down RIDICULOUS is hilarious. You've gotta be sure as f*ck you know what you are doing to face your BB shell down, cut expensive cranks and figure out how you are going to mount your chain guide onto your ISCG tabs [which you would have to cut off] or a way to get a BB adapter to work when it doesn't even fit.
